for the person who stole my bicycle (on my birthday)

Sing hooray for the beauty of the bicycle
humanity's best invention by far
blueprints approved by God Herself
(while the devil drew the details of the car)

Sing hooray for the laws of physics
that allow a bike to ride
And sit-up-and-beg belief in the angels
who cruise by your freewheeling side

Sing Vive La Piece de Résistance!
Sing Long Live Pedal Power!
Sing Victory to the Mudguard of the Revolution
of the wheels of our finest hour

Sing hooray for the seasons of the cycle
forever breathing through your skin
for the elemental cogs of winter
for the magical spokes of spring

Sing hooray for the well-earned salt
of the sweat on the brow of a hill
Sing hooray for the storm of a rapid descent
for the race of the chase of the thrill

Sing hooray for your arse-hugging friend
who tickles you pink when you're feeling blue
And mint edible medals for the bicycle mechanics
who make our dreams come true

Yes Sing hooray for the beauty of the bicycle
Bells echo bells!
Smiles echo smiles!
Sing hooray for such poetry in motion:
humanity's best invention
by miles
       and miles
              and miles
