A Midsummer's River Blessing

May you be as happy as
that damp-nosed dog
standing all stalwart and stout
on the bow of his master's boat
making six or seven dog-knots against a midsummer's breeze
utterly dogcontent with Life
and Life's snoutly abundance 
of air-borne gossip
and river-borne pungence
