A Midsummer's River Blessing

May you be as happy as
that damp-nosed dog
standing all stalwart and stout
on the bow of his master's boat
making seven dog-knots against a midsummer's breeze
utterly dogcontent with Life
and its snoutly abundance 
of canine gossip
and feline pungence
