the lonely old poet

the lonely old poet
upon the hill
finally decided
that
whatever the risks
to his self-image or reputation
it was far better to come down from the hills
than to die
a lonely old poet
upon a hill

for his heart
was tired of being lonely
and his body yearned for
dancing and laughter

once this decision was made
his life became rather beautiful

and when he died
his friends buried him inside that very hill

where he never felt lonely again
