the first housefly of spring

some say it’s the first snowdrops
some wait for the daffs
before they celebrate spring’s arrival
and consign winter to the past

but I say it’s the housefly
currently scuttling about my desk
coz
if you’re gonna celebrate them pretty little flowers
you’ve also got
to give at least a nod
to all them pesky little pests
