A fathers' blessing

My father
and forefathers
stand behind me

a spinal cord of love and pride and light

Each one a vertebra
rigged with ropes of woven sinew
and held in place
by clear intention
and masculine grace

Each one rooting for me

Wishing me nothing but the best

Nothing but the best, lad
Nothing but the best
